Ambassador Gil Fernandes served as Permanent Representative of Guiné-Bissau. to the United Nations, Deputy Permanent Representative of Cape Verde to the UN, Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador to Sweden, Representative in Egypt, and served with the UN peacekeeping missions in Angola and Mozambique at senior political levels. He holds an honorary doctorate from Federal University of Rondonia, Brazil; BA, University of New Hampshire; Master of International Relations, American University.
